Hallein - salt mining and celtic settlement
The history of Hallein (about 15 km south of Salzburg) is based on the history of the Celts and Salt. The Hallein Celtic Museum is one of a kind in Europe and internationally, presenting the valuable find of salt from Mount Dürrnberg in the celtic time, as well as the scientific processing of it. Hallein is also known as the “City of Culture” because of the noumerous festivals and activities. Hallein also offers architecture from the middle ages and the burial place and museum of Franz Xaver Gruber, the composer of the song “Silent Night”.
